How to Enjoy LU (When the Waves Fail You :p)

Wanting to beat the summer heat and enjoy the last weekend of my leave (I can't believe it's been a month already!), I went up north for a surfing weekend in San Juan, La Union. My friend and ultimate surf babe, Yna, was going there with her friend Gale and I decided to tag along. I'm really impressed by them two. They both have day jobs in Manila and all yet they manage to go up north at least twice a month to surf. Talk about committment. Haha. I couldn't ask for better surf buddies.

Unfortunately, there weren't any waves last weekend. Boo. My plan for a super stoked weekend didn't exactly push through, but that doesn't mean we didn't have fun. Here's how we still managed to have a blast at the beach.:)

1. Indulge on beach food.

Number 1 Pinoy summer heat quencher: Halo-halo.
Arlan, Gale, Yna and me enjoying halo-halo at 35-friggin-degrees.

Ice lollies. Too good to pass up.

Barbecue, onion rings and BEER by the beach. Perfect combo while watching the sunset.

2. Get to know the locals.

Me with Kuya Abe. No need to say what he does for a living huh?
Me and Yna with surfing kids Tonette and Joshua.

Ate Gale and Tonette.

Yna with her bebe, Benito and friend.. Local instructors/

Hanging out with instructors Arlan and Marvin.

3. ... local celebrities...

With Kuya Anthony, local surf champ. He was on the cover of Philippine Inquirere's April 18 issue.

4. ... and local dogs.:)

Alon, San Juan's local celebrity dog. :)

Another local dog who can paddle better than I do. Haha.

With French bulldog, Chichi. He's been in San Juan for four months and is now a beach side celebrity..

5. Get free beer.

With Ernie, a Malaysian dude who braved the scorching sand to give us free ("unspiked") booze! Haha. :)

5. Don the board.

For the default surfer chick photo op.

6. Take the paddle board challenge.

Without the swell, paddling is the next best thing. Yna and Gale thinks so too. :)

7. And when all else fails, you can always just bum around. :)

Life after all, is a beach.:)

See? Not bad for an overnight stay in San Juan. Thanks LU for the sun, sand, and (almost) surf!:)

Can't wait for our next weekend together!
