Kodanda Archery Range: 6 Reasons to Try Archery

I have to be honest, I have zero experience on archery. The closest I ever got to the sport is a classmate back in college telling me about his Archery Class for PE (which I dubbed as "weird, only-in-UP PE class" along the ranks of walking, and stretching haha.)

But thanks to my officemate, Judy, or Kuya Judy as she's known in the blogworld (but, really, she's a girl), I got to try the sport at Kodanda Archery Range in Makati.

Kodanda, which means "he who has a bow" in Sanskrit.

We had a one-hour session together. Each hour costs P500 inclusive of equipment and protective gear rental (not to mention you get to keep you paper targets as souvenir, yeah!). Normally, people just go there and step in the range, but if you're a first timer, you get a coach to help you all through out the session.

It was a pretty cool experience, and though it might be difficult not to mention awkward activity for first timers (it did for me haha), here are six reasons why you should give it a try yourself. :)

Reason #1: You'll learn a new sport.
I'm always for trying out news things, and though I'm not the sportiest person on the planet, I was thrilled  to give archery (or the arrow) a shot. I mean, all you have to do is pull the bow string and shoot. That shouldn't be so hard, right?

Wrong.

Contrary to how easy it looks like, archery is pretty challenging. It takes strength - holding the bow to pulling the string (na hindi madali, pramis); discipline - there are rules on the range like when to shoot, how to pick up/put down your bow, how to treat other archers; and a lot of concentration - like following the right steps, having the right stance.

Here we go!

Not to mention a damn good aim.

I know, that's a lot to take in on your first time. But don't worry the instructors will give you a lowdown on all these before taking your place in the range. And if a sucker like me, with below average hand-eye coordination can do it, I'm sure you can, too!:)

I'm sure you can do so much better than this. :p

Reason #2: You get to have bragging rights.
I mean seriously, how many people do you know can actually do or have done archery? Hitting the target, or the very least trying,  is such a rewarding experience you'd want to share with others. The sport is pretty challenging that you'd give yourself a pat on the back after you'd shot those five precious bows - bullseye or otherwise. In my case, "otherwise" included the floor and the ceiling. Hehe. #whoops.

Reason # 3: You're prepared for zombie attacks.
Imagine how many walkers you can take down once you've mastered the sport? Daryl would be so proud of you! <3

Reason #4: You'll have a perfect barkada activity…
Back to reality. There's nothing like an exciting, healthy competition to pump up an ordinary barkada gimmick. Kodanda is open daily from 10:30am to 7:30pm, with peak time after office hours or during weekends. I suggest you book your session in advance especially if you plan to go on big groups.

See? Even kids do this as an after-school activity. :)

Challenge your friends, church mates, officemates (your boss maybe?), your family. Or better yet...

Reason #5: … or a kilig date.
…take the boyfriend with you. Wanna veer away from the usual movie date? Gone through all the Top 10 best/cheapest/most romantic ramen/artisan burger/milk tea/pork buns/chicharon date places? Try playing cupid (quite literally), I'm sure it's one date for the books.

Reason #6: You just might find yourself a new hobby.
Who knows? You just might turn to love it. You won't need to buy any equipment or gear until you're all serious about the sport. It's a fun and rewarding sport that you can play alone or with friends, to unwind or workout. :)

Ready to take your aim?:)

Kodanda Archery Range is located at the basement floor of Makati Cinema Square. You can visit their official Facebook page for more information and other updates.
